1iing Heaney Masterclass: 3D Scanning Workshop
1iing Heaney
Date(s):
14.11
Time(s):
2pm-4pm
Location(s):
Digital Depot, The Digital Hub

This hands-on workshop, facilitated by artist 1iing heaney, will introduce participants to 3D scanning technologies, particularly photogrammetry - the process of turning photographs and video into detailed digital models.

We will use clay, paper, wire, and other materials (feel free to bring along any materials you'd like to work with too!) to create small physical sculptures. These creations will then be digitised using photogrammetry. We will do this to explore themes of digitisation, preservation, and material transformation, asking the question what happens when a physical object becomes data?

This workshop is suitable for those who work digitally and want to explore with physical materials, as well those who create physical objects and are interested in how they can translate their work digitally.

Laptops are not required, but if you would like to bring along your own computer, please download the latest version of the 3D modelling programmes Blender and Reality Capture, and bring a 3 button mouse.

This workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 people.

1iing heaney is a visual artist based in Leixlip, Co. Kildare. Utilising CGI through 3D scanning, animation, and printing, her work exploits these technologies to find eerie, changeling, and liminal spaces between data and reality. Using the Irish landscape as a lens to explore this, 1iing’s work details how contact with nature, history, and culture is mediated through digital technology. She explores contemporary disconnection from the solid earth, and how this affects our presence in a networked ecological world.

This workshop is supported by the Creative Europe's Studiotopia programme.
